The Giant Indian, by Johney Ragoobir

Once upon a time there was a giant named Johney. He’s shy and sometimes dislikes people who stare. The giant applied for GRO and got accepted. People think Johney is some white guy who’s 5 feet 2 with bracelets, four eyes, pimple face, with chicken legs. When everyone met at Bombay they were like, are you Johney. Yes, duh I’m the only male delegate. Walking down the street across Taj Mahal Hotel trying to order a bottle of water, the old wise man asked me if I am Indian, I said No I’m from Guyana. Ghana in Africa? No, I responded Guyana in South America. The old wise guy paused for a moment and said 30 rupees. I put my shades on and noticed every step I make there are people eye balling me. Why do I have to be so tall? I thought people will not eye ball if I’m in Chinatown in NYC and I’m the only brown guy standing in the middle of the fish market ordering red snapper. Now I’m in India ordering a bottle of water and I’m getting plenty of attention. It feels good when people are watching out for you but sometime I feel they are overdoing it. I have a passion of playing basketball and not watching it. I notice Indian parks don’t have any hoops. Someday when I get a good job I will put my mouth where my money is and set up all parks to have hoops. I dream big, I think big, I feel big, that’s why I’m a giant. I want to set up a school just like David did, but in a different way – the Big Mac way. David’s idea was to collect deaf kids and place them in safe homes; he provided some computer training and offered small jobs. My goal is the Google dream, I want to set up a campus where the deaf work, eat, sleep, chat, and work together as a team from India to Mexico. They would be exchanging pieces of work via the internet; it can be from pieces of software to art work such as drawing or animation. This would generate a lot of income and make deaf people boost their incomes. I know I’m speaking crazy but sometimes dreams do come true. By the way, happy New Year and god bless for a safe journey. My number one goal is to become a good listener, try new talents, and stay in shape.
