Avi Haimowitz

Avi Haimowitz was born deaf and graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2008 with a degree in Applied Arts and Science, focusing on psychology and sociology. Avi was an English peer tutor for students at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) for four years, and acted as Director of Academic Affairs for the NTID Student Congress from 2006 to 2007. She has two years of experience working as a counselor for deaf youth in NTID's Explore Your Future program as well as the NTID Summer Vestibule Program for incoming deaf freshmen. Avi was also an intern at Walden School, a treatment program for adolescents with social and emotional difficulties in Framingham, MA during the summer of 2008. She is now working towards her Master's Degree in Social Work at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C.

With a strong desire to work within the global deaf community, Avi assisted Alim Chandani, the GRO Executive Director, in his preparations for the GRO-India program in 2007, and acted as a student delegate on the trip. Inspired by her experience in India, Avi is now truly committed to the vision of GRO.
