Dr. Shilpa Hanumantha was born in Bangalore, India and moved to the United States a few years later. She received her bachelor's degree in Biology from George Mason University (GMU) and two master's degrees from Gallaudet University: one in Administration and Supervision and the other in Clinical Psychology. Shilpa went on to receive her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology. In addition to her academic accomplishments, Shilpa has been involved in several non-profit organizations within the Deaf community over the years. A practice she continues to this day, even serving as an officer on the boards of a few organizations. Currently, she is in her second year as a post-doctoral research fellow for the Visual Language and Visual Learning (VL2) center at Gallaudet University, one of the six selected Science and Learning Centers funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). In her free time, she enjoys reading psychology journals, photo-blogging, and traveling to new places. As a newly appointed board member of GRO, Shilpa hopes to focus on improving diversity as well as the myriad of national and international issues that affect deaf youth. |
